Our Life & Travels

One Life, Live It One World See It

If you look at the maps below, we have roughly marked out our route with a black line. This isn't exact but gives a good idea of the areas we shall be travelling through.

(Detailed route log below maps).

We intended to Land at Ceuta (a Spanish enclave), then drive into Morocco and travel along the Northern Coast. Just before the Algerian border we will turn south along the Western fringes of the Sahara desert heading down towards Western Sahara.

After our travels through Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal we will travel north along the Western Moroccan coastline before going up into the Atlas mountians. We then intend to cross part of the mountain range before heading to Casablanca and back to our start point in Ceuta.

17 Jan Arrived Nador. 3 hrs drive West to Al Hoceima.

20 Jan Drove South towards Taza then East through Guercif.

22 Jan South onto Rekkam Plateau.

23 Jan Drove South through Ar-Rachidia to Blueu Meski.

26 Jan Continued South to Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi.

27 Jan Drove North to Alnif and the piste to Tinerhir.

30 Jan West to the Dades Gorge and then South towards Ouarzazate.

1 Feb South West to Taliouine.

2 Feb Piste from Taliouine to Foum-Zguid.

3 Feb South West towards Assa. Drove part of piste used in a Dakar rally - Assa to Es Smara.

4 Feb West towards Guelmin.

5 Feb South towards Tan-Tan.

7 Feb South towards Layounne.

We haven't much choice here. This region is a disputed area and we have to keep to the Western side and follow the coast down to Mauritania.

8 Feb  N1 South to Dakhla.

9 Feb  N1 South. Camped overnight 80 kms North of the Mauritanian border.

10 Feb  South into Mauritania towards Nouadhibou. Beach wild camp.

11 Feb  N1 North to Dakhla.

12 Feb  N1 North towards Laayoune.

13 Feb  N1 North to Guelmim.

After entering Mauitania we will travel South along the coast down to Senegal.

On leaving Senegal we will travel back through central Mauritania.

After entering Senegal we intend to travel South along the coast to Dakar and hopefully carry on into Gambia before heading East and entering Senegal's National Park. We will do the return leg along the Eastern side of the country before re entering Mauritania.

Unfortunately we were unable to enter Senegal because we did not have a 'Carnet de Passage' for the vehicle.

11/02/07          N back to the Mauritanian border & N1 to Dakhla.

12/02/07          N from Dakhla towards Laayoune.

13/02/07          Through Guilmim to Fort Bou-Jerif camp site.

16/02/07          Drove around South of Assersif looking for a piste that was shown on the map but nowhere to be found on the ground! NW to Agadir.

19/02/07          East on the N10 through Taroudant then NE on the R203 Tizi-n-Test pass towards Asni. Overnight at wild camp SW of Asni.

20/02/07          NE on minor roads (incl. R210 through Demnate) to Cascades d'Ouzoud.

22/02/07          Drove through the, partly snow covered, High Atlas Mts.

23/03/07          NE on the N8 towards Azrou. Through Ifrane and on to Sefrou.

24/02/07          Fes. Set up at camping Diamant Vert about 6km South of the city.

28/02/07          N8 North to Ketama. Through Ketama on the N2 to Kalah-Iris.

01/03/07          After driving part of a challenging piste, set up a wild camp on a beach West of El Jebha. All seemed great until about 8 pm when we were asked to move on by a polite army officer. We packed up as armed squaddies stood by. Camped overnight, near the road, outside a cafe next to a petrol station. Lovely!

02/03/07          N16 coastal road to Oued Laou. N13 to Martil and then, unimpressed with tourist-driven Northern Morocco, on to the Spanish enclave port of Ceuta.  Boarded ferry to Algeciras.  Drove to Rio Jarra camp site in Tarifa.
